Bass scored the final seven points of the quarter to bring Boston within 74-62 after three quarters. Despite allowing the Clippers to shoot 50 percent in the final quarter, the Celtics were able to chip away at the deficit with their own hot shooting. They hit their first five attempts from beyond the arc in the period with Thornton and Smart each netting a pair. Thorntons 3 with 3:50 to go made it a one-possession game, but Los Angeles tightened up its defense the rest of the way. The Clippers scored eight of the next nine points, and the Celtics shot just 1-of-5 from the field after the Thornton triple. Chris Pauls 3 with 48 seconds left punctuated the win. We cant be down by that much, said Celtics coach Brad Stevens. We took a lot of contested shots in the first half, and thats not good. We were better in the second half. We closed it to three, but we missed a couple of good looks down the stretch. The Clippers jumped out to an 11-2 lead on Jordans alley-oop courtesy of Griffin, and Redicks jumper a minute later gave Los Angeles an 11-point lead. The Clippers led 23-17 after one quarter.
